MERRY CHRISTMAS

Christians have every reason to celebrate Christmas every day. The LORD visited us and stayed until He conquered the very enemy that frightened us.  The promise of our victory started in the Garden of Eden as recorded in Genesis 3:15, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

“He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us—Luke 1:69-71.

Breaking the head of satan is the reason for Merry Christmas.  The salvation the LORD gave us is not temporary, but lasts for a lifetime.  This salvation extends to eternity. This breaking of the devil’s head, which is our salvation, is spiritual and eternal, a deliverance and life that will never end—our deliverance from the uncertainty of whether we are loved and accepted by God.

Merry Christmas is deliverance from the enemies that wage an endless war against our spirit and enslave us—the enemies of sin, death, and condemnation.  We celebrate our deliverance from these enemies because heaven came down and glory filled our souls. We are no longer alienated from God; we are now bona fide children of our loving Father. This is Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas is deliverance from fear.  Luke 1:74, “to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear.” God gives victory over fear through the coming of Jesus Christ.  Our victory over fear enables us to serve the LORD. The angel told Mary of how she had been chosen to be the mother of the Savior of the world.   She wondered how that would be possible, but the angel told her not to be afraid.

She accepted that assignment after the angel’s explanation that she would be pregnant despite being a virgin. She signed the agreement to carry out the assignment by saying, “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.”  Luke 1:38. She served the LORD without fear, energized throughout the pregnancy despite all odds.

It’s Merry Christmas because gloom and distress were removed when Jesus was born. Jesus the Messiah brings the mercy of God to man.  Isaiah gave the prophecy in Isaiah 9:1, “Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress.”

The birth of Jesus is the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy. It is a message of hope, promising an end to gloom and distress. In our lives, we can trust that God will bring light to our darkest situations. We can find comfort in knowing that God is sovereign over our circumstances. Gloom and distress are removed because Jesus, the Light, has come. Let us bask in His glory instead of sadness and distress. I pray you will be filled with the joy of the LORD!  MERRY CHRISTMAS!
