I traveled to Israel some years ago. One of the historical places we visited was the Dead Sea. I soon found out the reason why this sea is called the Dead Sea. No one could plunge into the sea; everyone was floating on it. The explanation was that the saltiness of the Dead Sea defies the principle of density, which also makes it impossible for living things to survive inside it. This was so strange, so I kept watching others, and I didn’t get into the water. The group I traveled with was very supportive and kind. In this group was a young couple who watched out for me throughout the ten-day trip. This couple believed I should not miss the fun. They held my hands and encouraged me to lie on my back on the sea, allowing me to enjoy this mystical moment. I am happy I did. Truly, I floated and I drifted on the Dead Sea.
The vision of Ezekiel brought me a flashback about the Dead Sea. But in Ezekiel 47:8-9, the Bible tells a different story of what will happen to the Dead Sea: ‘He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, where it enters the Dead Sea.” When it empties into the sea, the salty water there becomes fresh. 9Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. 10Fishermen will stand along the shore; from En Gedi to En Eglaim there will be places for spreading nets. The fish will be of many kinds—like the fish of the Mediterranean Sea.”
The Bible says the Dead Sea will become fresh. How will that happen? There is a river that will flow into the Dead Sea, restoring life and bringing vitality. Living creatures will start to live inside the Sea. The deadness is removed, and everywhere this river flows, it receives life. The place of desolation and death is transformed into one of abundance and life. Since the water is healed and restored, fishermen will be able to catch a large number of fish from it.
This healing river is available for us today. The Bible says, “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it’s all free! Isaiah 55:1 (NLT). There is an open invitation to come and drink from this river. Water from the Dead Sea is not portable, but when this river flows into the Dead Sea, everything becomes new. You drink from this river, and you are satisfied. This River is Jesus Christ. When we come to Jesus, the LORD removes death and replaces it with eternal life.
The woman of Sychar in the Bible was thirsty, but all she had was not enough to satisfy her thirst. She even tried five marriages, but no satisfaction. All the water she was drinking could be likened to the water of the Dead Sea. No water could quench her thirst. But one day, she had an encounter with the LORD JESUS at the well. She met Jesus, the Living Water, who heals, restores, brings life, and removes death. “Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14.
Our lives before Christ are the Dead Sea. The Bible says, “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.” Ephesians 2: 1-2.
We were all spiritually dead from birth. Nothing can be done, humanly speaking, to change the situation. Changing the salty, lifeless Dead Sea into a life-giving body of water is a game-changer. However, Jesus, the Living Water, when He flows into our lives, makes us spiritually alive if we accept Him in our lives. The result of receiving Him is the miracle of the new birth. We become God’s masterpiece through His creative power. The Bible says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10.
We become a poem written by God, His masterpiece, and a life of value. A life of death is replaced with a life of God producing good works for God. THIS IS THE GREATEST MIRACLE THAT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE!
