We often hear among Christians, “All things work together for good.” This phrase is quoted from a Bible verse. The verse says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28.
The believer knows that every life event and the future are not hidden from God. Our God, who knows tomorrow from yesterday, controls the believer’s life. This conviction gives believers peace in the storm. Life’s positive and negative things will be arranged, rearranged, sorted, sifted, subtracted, added to, multiplied, shrunk, expanded, decreased, and increased. As the Great Designer of the believer’s life, God works out everything for the believer’s good. This is good for the believer, not only the believer, but also good for God.
The verse does not say everything will be good every time. There are many disappointing situations because life is not a smooth, straight line. But the victory is that God can work the undesirable conditions of life to lead to His glory and the believer’s blessing. God is in control. God’s plan for the believer’s life cannot be thwarted. It will work for the believer’s good, not just in this world but in the heavenly home.
To those who love God is the great emphasis. Who are those who love God? The believers who have received the love of Christ. They have experienced the deliverance from darkness to the Kingdom of God. The Bible says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession; that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” 1 Peter 2:9. We are sure of His love because He revealed it to us through His sacrifice on the Cross, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” – John 15:13. All the challenges will work together for our good because God will use them to glorify Himself and develop our trust in Him. You cannot keep the love of God to yourself. It is supposed to show in your day-to-day activities and choices.
Note the words, ‘according to His purpose.” What is the purpose of our calling? Our calling aims to declare the praises of the LORD, who has done so much for us. This is what is called witnessing. We are witnesses to the LORD and what He has done for us. You cannot keep the love of God to yourself. It is supposed to show in your day-to-day activities and choices.
The summary is that the believer who is called and heed the call of God is prepared through all life experiences to know the LORD and have unwavering trust in Him. All the experiences in life empowered us to “declare the praises of Him who called you from darkness into His marvelous light.” At the end of this life, we will reign with the LORD.
Whatever the situation, if you are a believer, it will work for your good, not just in the world here but when we see the LORD face to face. So, we do not feel abandoned by God and say, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ Instead, we will say, without any doubt, that “everything will work together for good.”
This is victorious living. It’s good for God, and it’s good for you.
